Centerpoint Energy Reports Widespread Outages Urges Residents To Report Any Loss Of Power

Houston Power Outages Affect Nearly 1 Million

CenterPoint Energy reports widespread outages, urges residents to report any loss of power

Mayor Whitmire compares the situation to Hurricane Ike

HOUSTON - Nearly 1 million people were left without power across the Houston area after severe weather. CenterPoint Energy, which maintains street lights throughout the electric service area in and around Houston, is not presently aware of any outages in this area.

If you are without power, please report the outage by calling CenterPoint Energy's power outage number at 800-332-7143. You can also view the Outage Tracker for updates.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire drew a comparison to 2008's Hurricane Ike. "This is a major power outage that is affecting a large number of people," Whitmire said. "We are asking residents to be patient and to report any outages to CenterPoint Energy."

The storm, which brought high winds and heavy rain, caused widespread damage across the Houston area. Trees were uprooted, power lines were downed, and homes and businesses were flooded. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the area.
