Dodgers dominate Yankees in a blowout victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their impressive start to the 2024 season with a commanding 11-3 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers pounded out 14 hits, including three home runs, and took advantage of five Yankees errors to improve to 35-19 on the season.
Julio Urias got the start for the Dodgers and was brilliant once again. The left-hander allowed just one run on four hits over six innings of work, striking out nine batters and walking none. Urias improved to 7-3 on the season with the win.
The Dodgers offense got going early, scoring three runs in the first inning off Yankees starter Gerrit Cole. Mookie Betts led off the game with a single, and Will Smith followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Trea Turner then singled to drive in Betts, and Jake Cronenworth followed with a sacrifice fly to score Smith. Max Muncy capped off the inning with an RBI single to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
The Dodgers added to their lead in the second inning when Trayce Thompson hit a solo home run off Cole. The blast was Thompson's ninth of the season and gave the Dodgers a 4-0 lead.
The Yankees finally got on the board in the third inning when Aaron Judge hit a solo home run off Urias. However, the Dodgers answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Smith hit a two-run homer off Cole to make it 6-1.
The Dodgers put the game away for good in the fifth inning when they scored four more runs off the Yankees bullpen. Betts hit a two-run double, and Turner and Cronenworth added RBI singles to give the Dodgers an 11-1 lead.
The Yankees scored two more runs in the seventh inning off Dodgers reliever Phil Bickford, but it was too little, too late. The Dodgers bullpen held the Yankees scoreless over the final two innings to seal the victory.
With the win, the Dodgers moved into a tie with the San Diego Padres for first place in the NL West. The Dodgers will look to continue their winning ways when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.
