Candy Sold At Walmart Target Dollar General And Others Recalled Over Salmonella Risk

Candy sold at Walmart, Target, Dollar General, and others recalled over salmonella risk

Popular candy products are being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to the FDA and manufacturer Palmer Candy Company.

A voluntary candy recall issued back in May has now been elevated to a Class I recall, the most severe issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recalled candies were distributed nationwide to Walmart, HyVee, Target, Dollar General, and to distributors in Alabama, California, Florida, and Illinois.

The recalled candies include:

  • Palmer Candy Company's "WEB Candy" in 1.5-ounce bags with the UPC code 078251005065
  • Palmer Candy Company's "WEB Candy" in 2-ounce bags with the UPC code 078251005072
  • Palmer Candy Company's "WEB Candy" in 5-ounce bags with the UPC code 078251005089
  • Palmer Candy Company's "WEB Candy" in 8-ounce bags with the UPC code 078251005096

Consumers who have purchased the recalled candies are urged to not eat them and to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious illness, including diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. In some cases, Salmonella can also lead to more serious health problems, such as septicemia and meningitis.

The FDA is investigating the source of the Salmonella contamination. Palmer Candy Company has suspended production of the recalled candies and is cooperating with the FDA's investigation.

Conclusion

The recall of these popular candies is a reminder of the importance of food safety. Consumers should always check the labels of food products they purchase to make sure they are not part of a recall.
