Television News from the Sea and Baltic Coast to the Belt Region

Kiel | 26 February 2023

The storm caused damage in Schleswig-Holstein, particularly on the coasts of the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Lübeck. Shortly after 11 p.m., the storm tore off part of the roof of the Bayside-Hotel in Travemünde. Parts of the sheet metal roofing crashed into a neighboring building. Nobody was injured but, according to fire department officials, the damage is considerable.

The police reported many fallen trees in Travemünde, Timmendorfer Strand, Haffkrug and Timmendorfer Strand-Niendorf. In Timmendorfer Strand, a historic tree fell on the promenade. According to the fire department, the tree trunk was completely rotten, which is why the roots could no longer hold the tree in the storm. The road was closed for several hours between the Maritim-Seehotel and the Maritim-Club-Hotel.

In Haffkrug, a building was damaged when part of the scaffolding on a neighboring construction site was torn off by the storm and crashed into the facade. There were no injuries here either, but the material damage is considerable.
